Attitudinal studies have been areas of exploration by many researchers because of the desire to gain insights into the foundation of such attitudes and the variables that influence their formation. This study did an investigation into the analysis of the attitude of students towards the study of social studies. One hundred (100) secondary school students provided the data for the investigation.

This research work sought to assess the attitude of undergraduate youths toward democratic values and the implication these would have on social studies education in Nigeria. The youths of Nigeria has been confirmed to form the bulk of the citizens which is the decision making group in the society. The lack of a democratic attitude of mind has been identified as the major obstacle that has mar democratic consolidation in Nigeria. Thus, both elites and youths have been observed to surprisingly shown weak commitment to the basic symbols and values of democracy.

ABSTRACT This study sought to investigate the effect of drama method of instruction on the interest and achievement of junior secondary school 2 students in Social Studies in Bomadi Education Zone of Delta State. The study employed a quasi-experimental design. Specifically, pretest, post-test, non-equivalent control group design was used. The population of the study was 2618 junior secondary school two (JSS 2) students in the 35 public co-educational schools in Bomadi Education Zone in the 2013/2014 academic session. Simple random sampling technique was used to draw four schools out of these schools. The schools were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Intact classes of each school were drawn for the study giving a total of four intact classes. Students in the intact classes constituted the sample of 172 used for the study. Data were collected using a 25-item Drama Method of Achievement Test (DMAT) and a 20-item Social Studies Interest Inventory (SSII). The instruments were validated by experts from both Social Studies and Measurement and Evaluation Departments. The reliability index of 0.74 determined through Kuder-Richardson 20 formular was obtained for the DMAT while an internal consistency index of 0.91 was obtained for the SSII using Cronbach Alpha method. It is a process of transmitting what is worthwhile from generation to generation. The primary purpose of education is to produce effective members of the society whose three ‘Hs’ – head, heart and hands have been well developed to enable them live as effective and acceptable human beings. The purpose of this study is to examine the factors hindering effective teaching and learning of Social Studies courses in the Nigerian Secondary Schools. And also identifies ways by these factors responsible for the poor growth of Social Studies education can be reduced or eliminated. The population of study comprises of teachers and students in six selected secondary schools in Esan Local Government area, Edo State. The researcher used hand delivery and on the spot collection in administering the questionnaire. This was influenced by the delay and loss of questionnaires inherent mailing system. For the purpose of this study, a sample was randomly obtained from the population. Students possessed different experience on the basis of their various level of study.

The purpose of this study was to investigate social studies teachers’ perception on the use of community resources in the teaching and learning of social studies in some selected junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The sample of the study was made up of 100 social studies teachers in 20 junior secondary schools. Four research questions and two hypotheses were raised in the study to find out the teachers’ perception on the use of community resources.
