HEALTH AND SEX EDUCATION PROJECT TOPICS AND MATERIALS

The study deals with students’ awareness to development and health issues that is, Health Education as a paradigm of vision 2020 in Nigeria nation, gotten from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Health, Environmental Education and Human Kinetics and Computer Science in the University of Benin. The sample consisted of 121 students drawn from three departments, only 110 responded. Data was analyzed in tabular forms using the simple percentage method. Findings were that the students had knowledge of the theme of the project. But was a little bit sceptical about the realization of its objectives.

Compliance with COVID-19 preventive measure is a double edge sword cutting through the fabric of the everyday life of the Nigerian citizen and the university environment to be precise. it is considered that the viral respiratory infections spread by direct contacts, such as touching an infected person or the surfaces that the person has either touched, on which large virus-containing droplets expired by the person lands and there the virus can remain stable for days. The disease is also believed to be spread across a short distance by air.

The Nigerian society today has to grapple with many behavioural problems of its youth. Such problems include truancy, disobedience, drug offences, assault, insult, stealing, violent, demonstration, vandalism, examination malpractices, robbery and secret cult activities (Nnachi, 2003). Apart from these widely publicized behavioural problems, heterosexual activities are also listed among types of behavioural problems prevalent in Nigeria secondary schools. These are variously named in the literature as sex abuse, sex offences, sexual misconduct, sexual immorality, sexual promiscuity and sexual maladjustment (Odoemelam, 1996; Adedipe, 2000; Ndu, 2000; Nnachi, 2003).

The purpose of this study is to enlighten the Nigerian people especially young girls on the dangers and complication of abortion. Also, to bring to the public, case of young girls who have paid the price of abortion in terms of physical health and emotional anguish. Also, to make recommendations based on findings and suggestions from religious leaders, doctors, teachers, students and other members of the society as to what is the best solution to the abortion problem.

The findings revealed that Owan East Women of child-bearing age engage in HIV risk practices and that level of education has a significant influence on the HIV risk practices amongst Owan East women of child-bearing area. The study further showed that the women do not use condom and some indulge in sex for material reward. It was concluded that efforts should be made to provide health education to women on healthy sexual behaviour: the benefits of condom use and the need to indulge in safe sex.

This study attempted to analyse reasons responsible for increase in abortion related mortality rates among young women in Benin metropolis.The survey research design was used to carry out the study, and the random sampling technique was used in selecting public places; such as schools, hospitals religious organization and shops in the three Local Government areas; Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, and Oredo, that makes up the Benin metropolis. The study was organized using a sample of two hundred and fifty (250) respondents, randomly selected from these three areas.

The study is on the myth and realities of female genital mutilation in Edo state. It seeks to find out if FGM truly exist in the state. The entire adult male and female population constitutes the study population out of which a sample of four hundred adult men and women will be used for the study.

Over the years and all through history it has been observed that opposite sex attracts, that is, man to woman, young boys to young girls, male child to female parent (Oedipus complex) and female child to male parent (Electra complex). This attraction could be for sexual gratification, sense of identity or a feeling of belonging. Literatures have shown that these two parties (male and female) have always had a strong connection that is beyond the ordinary. Something, someone or an idea has drawn them together. Premarital sex is generally used in reference to individuals who are presumed not yet of marriageable age, or between adults who will presumably marry eventually, but who are engaged in sexual activity prior to marriage (Lucas, 2000, Ramesh, 2008 and Barbra et al, 2001).

The practice of contraception is old as human existence. Ancient writings noted on the Leahun Papyrus (1800 BCE) that the old Egyptians practice contraception by using a vaginal pessary of crocodile dung and fermented dough which may create an hostile environment for sperm. During the early second century in Rome, Sorunus of Ephesus created a highly acidic concoction of fruits, nuts and wool that was placed at the cervical OS to create a spermicidal barrier (Wikipedia.com, 2010).

Malaria is a febrile illness characterized by fever and related symptoms (WHO, 1990). It is a disease caused by a blood borne protozoan parasite which is an intracellular parasite belonging to the class Sporozoa and of the genus Plasmodium and it is transmitted through the bite of an infected female anopheles mosquito (CDC, 2002). There are four different parasites of this genus which may give rise to malaria in man.
