However, recent times has shown that not everyone who goes into it for the right and noble reasons. With bad government, lecturers aren’t given any priority or any of the preferential treatments that some other sectors like oil company worker and politicians get. They are owed months old salaries and in some dire cases years. There is hardly a session that goes smoothly without cases of industrial actions in form of strikes which always lasts for weeks and months. Literature related to school based strategies employed by school managers to improve students’ academic performance has revealed mixed and contrasting range of results (Croninger & Lee, 2001; Zepeda, 2004; Fullan, 1991; Lamb, 2007 ; Waweru & orodho, 2014; World Bank, 2008). Croninger and Lee (2001) reported that the degree of teacher caring and interaction with students reported by both parents and teachers has a significant impact on performance. In a review of effective schools in the US, Croninger and Lee (2001) found evidence that schools with a common sense of purpose and strong communal organization involving collegial relationships among staff and positive adult student relationships are efficient in promoting a range of academic and social outcomes reflecting students’ engagement and commitment.

ABSTRACT Motivational strategies are ways by which management of an organization exploits to arouse their workers behaviour. The things that are responsible for variation in performance are firstly, the ability or skill of the individual to perform the job and secondly his drive or motivation to use this ability or skill in actual performance of the job. Hence a person with the ability to perform would increase if there are motivational packages at his/her disposal. People join organizations so that they can ultimately achieve their individual objectives (needs) by helping the organization achieve their own objectives. However, the study was restricted to Enugu State College of Education (Technical) Enugu. Both primary and secondary data were used in the study. To collect the data, a set of questionnaire was designed and administered to a sample of respondents which the whole copies were completed and returned, representing 100 percent response rate.
